This years Captain Scheetz Charity Bike was a scenic 25 mile ride through the back roads of Columbia and Northumberland County between Elysburg, Numidia and Bear Gap, Pennsylvania. Due to numerous road constructions around the area and of previous routes, the ride was eventually pushed to Labor Day weekend. We had 8 new riders this year and many of riders in the past plan to return. We will establish a goal of 50 riders for May 3rd, 2008.
The bike tour started as a simple way to honor Captain Robert Scheetz formerly of Paxinos who was killed in action on May 31st, 2004. When Captain Scheetz joined the military, his final duty station was not even on the USA radar. He volunteered for the military and loved the job he was doing. Through his upbringing in the region, he earned the respect of the men he commanded and the Iraquis who he tried to help.
Whether you agree with the Iraq War or not, we honor his strength, character and his commitment to make the world a little safer for all of us. For Captain Scheetz, that's why we ride, remember and say thank you.
